A woman desires to be a mother
Another desires for a mother
And one who is a mother

Stories of a woman’s hidden desires and memories are told through a series of five intimate episodes. Share her in her longings as she crosses between time and space and between dreams and reality.

Set against a black and white Hong Kong film, ‘Mother’s Grief’ 可憐的媽媽 made in 1961, Ma: Moment is presented in an architectural pavilion of re-imagined old shop houses and cinema screens, built on the site of Chinatown’s infamous Death Houses or Sei Yan Kai.

Performed in English and Cantonese by Lok Meng Chue, Noorlinah Mohamed and Tang Fu Kuen.

“Once a year, Precious Pig prepares for her death. At twenty, she got malaria and spent two months in a coma, hardly breathing. She woke to the sound of her own coffin being nailed shut. Today is the fortieth anniversary of that day, but she takes nothing for granted. Thirty-nine times she has celebrated her Deathday/Unbirthday/Anti-birthday, and each time, naturally, she treats it as her last.

She gets up early, to say goodbye to the sunrise. It’s the first of the day’s many farewells...”
